Lindow Monastery (Mark)
The Lindow Monastery is located on a peninsula on Lake Wutzsee,
just a few steps from the historic centre of Lindow (Mark).
The complex originated as a
medieval Cistercian nunnery and
played an important role in the Ruppiner Land region for centuries.
Today, the ruins of
the former convent building, with its tall fieldstone and brick walls, are particularly impressive.
The monastery grounds also include
the former monastery church,
which is now used as an open-air church ,
the historic cemetery and the
Garden of the Book..
This Jewish-Christian-Muslim
educational and display garden presents plants from the Tanakh, the Bible and the Quran.
For cyclists, the monastery is a rewarding stop:
history,
quiet paths,
old trees and
the location directly on Lake Wutzsee
come together beautifully here.
