Neuruppin’s lakeside promenade and historic sights

The cycle tour follows Neuruppin’s lakeside promenade and
passes through parts of the historic town centre.
The spacious promenade along Lake Ruppin
is one of the town’s most popular places and
offers beautiful views across the water.

Passenger boats depart from the promenade for cruises across Lake Ruppin.
Swans, gulls and
great crested grebes can often be observed along the shore.

Benches and peaceful spots invite you to
park your bicycle for a moment and
enjoy the atmosphere by the lake.

The Museum Neuruppin is located not far from the promenade
on August-Bebel-Straße.
Behind its historic façade, a varied collection presents the history and
culture of the town.
Parts of the exhibition are devoted to Neuruppin’s two famous sons,
Theodor Fontane and Karl Friedrich Schinkel.

Another historic place can be found at Karl-Marx-Straße 84. This is the former Löwen-Apotheke, the birthplace of the writer Theodor Fontane. He was born in Neuruppin on 30 December 1819. His father, Louis Henry Fontane, operated a pharmacy in the building.

The tour also passes close to the Tempelgarten. This magnificent park was created for Frederick the Great in the first half of the 18th century, when he lived in Neuruppin as crown prince. Gardens, historic buildings and peaceful paths make the Tempelgarten a special place within the town.

Another striking landmark is Neuruppin’s parish church. It was built in the neoclassical style between 1801 and 1806. Its towers, visible from a considerable distance, and the impressive church building shape the townscape.

The cycle tour combines nature, water, architecture and local history. It is particularly suitable for anyone wishing to discover Neuruppin by bicycle at a relaxed pace and allow enough time for sightseeing and breaks along the way.
