Historic Timber Rafting on the Rottstielfließ
At the Rottstielfließ
you can discover a piece of Ruppiner Schweiz’s history.
The waterway, around two kilometres long,
connects Tornowsee with Zermützelsee and
was once used to transport timber from the surrounding forests.
For timber rafting,
the stream was developed, straightened and deepened.
This made it possible to transport felled timber onwards by water –
a laborious task
that was closely linked to the region’s forestry for a long time.
Today, what remains above all is the tranquil,
near-natural landscape.
The Rottstielfließ winds its way between forests and lakes and
is a particularly beautiful stretch for cyclists,
hikers and paddlers.
Anyone wishing to learn more about historic forestry, resin tapping and
timber rafting can find further information at the nearby
Stendenitz Forest Museum .
